At first glance you might have some questions. Who is this guy? What?s this blog?about?
And, most importantly, why should I read it?
Great questions. I can only hope that my answers will hold you long enough to?keep reading.
First of all, my name is Richard Todd. I?m an author. I include my middle?initial ?S? on my books to distinguish me from my already-famous namesakes?out there (which include an actor, a football player, a musician, and a few other?authors). I have one book out called Raincloud and a short story named Clive, which was featured in the Brainstorms anthology and in NoD Magazine. My?second novel, The Orphans of the Creek, is due out in Fall 2012. (Editor?s Note: Rochard also maintains a blog at Letters Fron Scanlon Creek, the fictional town where his novel, Raincloud mystery unfolds.)
This blog is primarily about writing, publishing, and social media book?marketing. Not that I?m another Jack London offering writing advice or some?publishing executive with insider secrets. Neither am I a social media guru.
I?m simply an author who hopes to convey insightful, practical advice to help?guide you to publishing success.
I?m going to share with you some of the challenges I faced balancing life while?writing and promoting my work. Maybe you?ll see something you?re currently?experiencing. And I?m always here to answer questions. If you?re a success, I feel?like a success too.
So why am I being so helpful? Because I?ve been there. I love mentoring people,?as I did with my Self-Publishing Speaking Series. My best audience are people?just like you, either struggling to finish your book or trying to build a network to?promote it.
Just don?t forget to mention me in your Governor General?s Literary Award?acceptance speech.
Here are some of the topics I plan to cover in my guest blog posts for the readers of Social Sparkle & Shine (with some prodding from my first social media consultant, Debbie Horovitch, who I hired in 2008):
- The 5 biggest surprises I learned in publishing my first novel, Raincloud
- The reality of self publishing
- Options for marketing & book sales
- How to get an agent / ways to try to get an agent
- Can you get a publisher?
- A realistic timeline for planning your first book
- Getting over writing, sales or marketing procrastination
- How to plan a book tour
- How to get publicity for your book
